In this video, I'll guide you through the 8-step process to become a U.S. citizen through naturalization. Hi, my name is Giselle Rodriguez and I am an immigration attorney. I am happy to share some valuable information with you. To apply, you must have been a legal permanent resident in the U.S. for three or five years, depending if you live and are married to a U.S. citizen. After submission, USCIS will send you a receipt notice. Please know that USCIS may recycle previously taken fingerprints. USCIS will schedule you for your citizenship interview. During the interview, the USCIS officer will review your application, assess your English skills and administer the civics and history test. officer will tell you whether your case has been approved, denied or continued. If a same day ceremony is not available, USCIS will send you a notice with a date and time of the ceremony.
