1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 2Dr Hardtop – 2000hr Frame Off Restoration
This Bel Air has been the recipient of a hundred grand in parts and two thousand hours of labour. The engine is a ZZ4 with an expertly rebuilt 700R4 (with fourth gear lockup and 2200 stall converter) and an Auburn 3.55 rearend (Auburn 5420100, Limited Slip 8.2" 10 Bolt 17 Spline). The car has power steering (Tuff Stuff 8488A), power disc brakes, power windows, electric water pump (ProFlo 314350), in-tank electric fuel pump (Hyperfuel 4001), 150 Amp Alternator (Powermaster 37293-114), aluminum gas tank, aluminum driveshaft (Quarter Master), three-inch X pipe exhaust with cutouts (Holley Warlock), aluminum radiator (Engineered Cooling Products), electric fan (2500 CFM Flex-a-lite 398), … and way more. Hoses, lines, cables and adapters are aluminum and/or stainless steel from Lokar.
A one-piece floorplan was installed from the firewall to the trunk as well as inner and outer rockers (no patching, just complete new components). Brand new front inner and outer fenders were installed. The chassis has added crossmembers and IFS with polyurethane bushings. The car has an all-new brake system with disc brakes all round. Once the chassis and body were built and the powertrain was installed, the car was then driven for 600 kms before being disassembled to be painted at “Joey's Place Custom Paint and Restoration” in Edmonton, Alberta. At this time the ZZ4 engine was pulled and refreshened with roller rockers (COMP Cams RPM 1417-16, Self-Aligning 1.52 Rockers), Magnum Push Rods, Holley Flowtech polished headers and EFI; the 700R4 transmission was professionally rebuilt and the rear axle was professionally rebuilt. Since reassembly, the engine, transmission and axle have had an 800 km break-in period with multiple fluid changes. The car now has 1400 total kms on the all-new suspension and brakes and 800 kms on the powertrain.
Once painted, new glass, new weather seals, new grommets, new American Auto Wire harness was added, as well as new stainless steel, new chrome and new aluminum was polished and installed. The interior was reupholstered when the car had 1200 kms on it; this included all-new interior panels, carpet, mats, speakers, stereo, amp, power window switches, knobs, cranks, and headliner.
