Businesses and public institutions, receiving incoming documents in a wide range of formats, are faced with the challenge of needing to efficiently process and then securely archive them. In particular, such documents include Office files, emails, scanned paper, PDFs and even diagrams and sketches. A number of laws and guidelines recommend the use of the PDF/A format, including the German guidelines on orderly management and storage of books, diagrams and documents in digital format and on access to data (GoBD principles, introduced late 2014).

As a standardized ISO format, PDF/A can help in situations like these, consolidating all incoming document types into a simple, digital format suitable for long-term storage and use. More than 10 years after its adoption, the PDF/A standard has developed a number of best practices which will be demonstrated in the webinar. PDF/A-3 also offers additional opportunities for displaying documents more elegantly and efficiently.

The webinar will begin with a brief introduction to PDF/A, the ISO standard for long-term document archiving. The format’s wide range of applications will be presented, including its utility for both scanned and digital documents, as will the benefits that PDF/A offers. Practical, straightforward examples of the PDF Compressor’s usage will be demonstrated for all areas of application, from scanned documents to emails and digital invoices in compliance with ZUGFeRD.
