SYNOPSIS:
They were there to document - an intergenerational community reflects on the past ten years of Freedom Film Festival in Singapore. Started by Malaysia’s Pusat Komas in 2003, organisers in Singapore brought the festival here in 2010 and have kept it alive in order to bring plural perspectives to a local audience. The festival opens up discussions about human rights and socio-political issues, and its history is part of Singapore's history of activism and civil society.

This film debuted online at FreedomFilmFest Sg in 2021 and had its big screen debut at FreedomFilmFest Sg in 2022.

Subsequently, it was in official selection at SEAxSEA: Southeast Asia x Seattle Film & Literature Festival 2022, LANE DOC FEST 2023 (US) and Tokyo International Short Film Festival 2023 and was a nominee for Best Archive-Based Documentary for BKK DOC Bangkok International Documentary Awards Festival 2022.

This film is dedicated to the memory of Chris Ho and Ho Choon Hiong.

Director Bio: Celeste is an aspiring documentary filmmaker and mutual aid organiser outside of her bullshit day job. Her interest in Anthropology and Southeast Asian studies have shaped her approach to listening and stories.
