DOJ Alleges Smartmatic Bribed Venezuelan Election Chief with Luxury Home

@TheJusticeDept has filed a new brief in its federal case against Venezuelan-born voting machine company Smartmatic, detailing fresh bribery allegations.

Prosecutors say Smartmatic executive Roger Pinate, already indicted in a Philippines bribery scheme, also bribed Venezuela’s top election official at the time Tibisay Lucena-Ramirez, with an upper-middle-class home in Caracas complete with a pool.

According to the filing, the property was transferred through a third party to conceal the source in exchange for Lucena-Ramirez’s help securing Smartmatic’s status as Venezuela’s election services provider.

Patrick Byrne responded: “Yes, Smartmatic bribed the Philippines. Yes, they bribed a Venezuelan election official. This is small compared to what’s underneath. The DOJ now knows there’s far more to come.”

The case further cements Smartmatic’s long-denied ties to the Venezuelan regime and raises new questions about its global election operations.
