Susan Wierman has 45 years of experience in air quality management. She has been a lecturer for EP since 2017, when she retired after 21 years as executive director of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Air Management Association, which provides training, technical services, and coordination to 10 state and local air quality agencies. Before joining MARAMA, she served for 8 years as the deputy director of Maryland’s Air Management Administration. She has a master’s and BA in urban planning from the University of Washington and a certificate in continuing engineering studies from Johns Hopkins. The Air and Waste Management Association, an international professional association, awarded her their 2012 Griswold Award for Outstanding Pollution Control Official.
