This fun chromatic vocal exercise is excellent practise for improving pitch and riffs and runs. The chromatic scale is a challenging scale to sing accurately. Test yourself out!

The exercise covers the range from C4 to F5. Males can sing down the octave. Each exercise sequence covers an octave. Students find this jazzy exercise fun.
The chromatic scale or twelve-tone scale is a musical scale with twelve pitches, each a semitone above or below its adjacent pitches. As a result the chromatic scale covers all 12 of the available pitches of western music. That is the black and white keys of a piano covering an octave.

The interval of a semitone is one of the hardest to pitch accurately.
In the major scale the semitones occur between the 3rd and 4th degrees, and between the 7th and 8th degrees. In tonic solfa i.e. do re mi fa so la ti do, the semitones occur between mi-fa and ti-do.
Many students really struggle with these intervals especially ti-do.
