The Penang Pearl Waterfront is a mixed development located at the prime land in the centre part of the island.
Penang is the 2nd largest city in Malaysia and the growth centre of the northern part of the country.
The waterfront site is close to the famous Penang Bridge that links Penang Island to the Malaysian Peninsula. The site includes 3 reclaimed islands along the Jelutong Expressway and has a total land area of about 90 hectares. This master plan however focuses only on the central island which is zoned to be the main commercial centre of the development.
The conceptual master plan aims to transform the central island into Penang’s most attractive destination as well as a prime Waterfront Development in the region.

  The conceptual master plan for Pearl Waterfront Development reflects the client’s desires and determination to create a unique waterfront development and a new destination in Penang.

  While the basic ideas have been proposed in the conceptual master plan, there is still a long way before the development can be materialised. Further infrastructural analysis related to land reclamation and traffic planning is crucial at this point to ensure a long-term but cost-effective solution.
 
  Road network, intersection design, integration with the Light Rail System, pedestrian linkages, reclamation profile, platform level and other infrastructure-related requirements will have to be addressed before the master plan can be finalised and submitted for planning approval.

  Further down the line, architectural and landscape design will shape the character, colour and feel of the development. Again there are tremendous efforts and endurance expected at this point to ensure the desired atmosphere and environment quality for the development.

  Considering all the above it is obvious that changes will occur to the proposed conceptual master plan in the course of the refinement process and downstream at the design stage. We believe however that the direction set in the conceptual master plan will guide these changes to ultimately realise the vision of creating a unique waterfront development and new iconic destination in Penang
