Now here was a very pleasant surprise. I figured if anything maybe it would be enjoyable for a short bit, but I found myself going beyond just a test play and played the whole thing.

Initially I wasn't sure how they were going to play this one, as the first couple stages were auto scrolling chase scenes, but then I finally was able to pace myself in some of the usual platforming action, and the game kept my interest with the variety, and sometimes found myself having to take a moment or a few lives to figure out what I was to do with each new challenge they gave me. The game wasn't hard, but not easy either, an the infinite continues make this game accessible by anyone with some moderate level of gaming skills, and with that, some practice and patience to see it through, the ending can be seen not too long after.

What I really liked was how the story was told, the little animation windows showing some close up details during the cinematics, and the animation is so good. Graphics and colors made this feel as close to the cartoon as can be done for this old console, and music appropriate and tunes from the movie are recognizable. Controls as responsive and easy to pull off moves once you know what you can do, even the dreaded double tap to run I never faltered, didn't accidentally do it when I didn't want to and always was able to run when I needed to, so really good timing placed on that. And Aladdin can jump up and grab ledges to climb up them, looking and feeling a bit like Prince of Persia in that way, and he's also got a slide to get under low spaces, as well as a sneak to get by traps without setting them off. He can throw rocks that he finds, to stun guards or use them to open a gate. And then there are still those auto scrolling segments, never so much a favorite of mine, but even those were enjoyable.
