United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) pays tribute to Late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in an helicopter crash on May 19. The event is being boycotted by the United States. Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian also lost his life in the tragic accident. Meanwhile, Iran on Thursday began the registration of candidates for an early election next month following the death of Raisi, Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi told state TV. Once seen as a possible successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's ageing ultimate decision-maker, Raisi's sudden death has triggered a race among hardliners to influence the selection of Iran's next leader.
