26 years ago, in the early hours of 2 December 1994, the M/V Cebu City of William Lines Incorporated (WLI) sank at Manila Bay, after a collision with the container vessel M/V Kota Suria.
The M/V Cebu City was bound for Tagbilaran after a late departure from Manila, when the larger container vessel rammed its starboard side, causing a gaping hole on the passenger ship’s hull that led to its sinking some thirty minutes after the collision.
While around 501 passengers and crew survived, 71 lost their lives, and 26 remain missing.
