We faced a severe early morning (1:30am) storm from the west that kept us alert during the early hours. Luckily, we managed to reset the anchor and finally got some sleep around 3 am. Later in the morning, more storms arrived, making us navigate through heavy downpours while following tow boats moving upstream. However, by the day's end, we were treated to clear, cool, and dry weather, finding a tranquil spot to anchor at Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge, east of Decatur, Alabama. We were amazed to discover alligators in some of the smaller rivers feeding into the Tennessee River in northern Alabama, but indeed, they were there.
