In this tutorial you will learn how to build the most commonly used Brushed Metal or Anisotropic Shaders. We will first use Bump or Normal Maps to build basic Surface Imperfections. We will soon learn that V-Ray offers a much more optimized workflow which is using the Anisotropic Parameters of the BRDF. This way we will get a much nicer and more optimized result. Finally we will also develop a hybrid approach which will combine the use of Anisotropic Shaders with Bump or Normal Maps to generate the most realistic result.

I am using 3ds Max and V-Ray 5 in this demo but you can also use the same techniques for older versions such as V-Ray NEXT and V-Ray 3.
A similar workflow can also be used in other software such as Cinema4d, Maya, Blender and different kind of render engine such as Corona, Octane, Redshift, Arnold, Cycles, CyclesX, Eevee and countless others.
