Today Pierre Poilievre is calling to end birthright citizenship — the right that gives every child born in Canada the same chance at belonging. He says it’s to stop “birth tourism.” But let’s be honest — this isn’t about tourists. It’s about rewriting who gets to call this country home.

Canada’s strength has always come from inclusion. From refugees who built new lives, to immigrant parents who worked two jobs so their kids could have better ones. Ending birthright citizenship wouldn’t protect “integrity.” It would divide families and punish babies for where their parents were born.

We don’t build stronger nations by closing doors. We build them by keeping promises — especially the promise that every child born here is equal.
