Today we are more than excited to announce the release of this hawkbill sea turtle.

She arrived on June 29 and was brought by the coast guards, she came very weakly and suffers from a harpoon wound in her shell.

Also, she had wounds in her fins because the people who harpooned her tied them, so she couldn´t move.

She has been under the JRC care for 2 months, and she was been healing her wound every day and now is closed.

Also, our amazing volunteers help us by bringing her fresh seawater daily.

To our surprise, the turtle started laying eggs, which are incubated right now, hopefully, they will hatch at the end of September.

Remember this species is critically endangered due mostly to human impact. These turtles have been killed within the last hundred years for the tortoiseshell trade. Their eggs are still eaten around the world despite the turtle’s international protected status, and they are often killed for their flesh as well.

We are so happy she can go back where she belongs to the sea.
