Vietnam announced its roadmap to open to international tourists starting December 2021.

The whole country is expected to open by June 2022.

Halong Bay, Phu Quoc, Dalat, Hoi An and Nha Trang are the tourist destinations that Vietnam wants to open first.

As of right now, only citizens, residents, investors and work permit holders are allowed to enter the country.

In an official statement, the government announced it will allow fully vaccinated tourists to visit the country when it opens up.

Given the current vaccination speed, it will take another 20-22 weeks before the majority of the population is vaccinated.

This was definitely the week of SE Asia. The Vietnam Travel Update certainly comes as a bit of a surprise to many people.

Malaysia, Bali, Cambodia and even India have all announced their reopening plans.

It is still unclear which visas will be available once the country opens back up.

Tourism in Vietnam should return to normal by June 22, said the government.
