Apocalyptic prophecies were boiling over that year when the heavens inflicted a very deep wound on Taiwan. Fifteen years later, venturing near ground zero — Shuili and Yuchi — we did not deliberately search for memories of the 1999 Jiji earthquake, yet we inadvertently discovered new life in this scar.

To transport sugar produced by Puli’s sugar factor during the Japanese colonial era, a light railroad was opened from Puli #埔里 to Checheng # in 1916. Departing from Puli, the train would pass Yuchi on its way to Shuili. Back in those days, Shuili and Yuchi had a very close relationship.

This time, Avian and Kennie travel to these two places to deliberately soothe their journey, bringing with them paper and pen. Try to see the trajectory of all things in nature; try to understand the wisdom of co-existing with nature through the mouths of local residents, and try to once again appreciate that it is possible for man and nature to have an intimate relationship.

The casual manner and often irreverent humor of the two guides combine with deep historical knowledge and palpable love for Taiwan to produce a cultural documentary that is frequently both enlightening and engaging, instructive and poignant.
