Join us as we explore the 95-year-old Prince of Wales Hotel, a historical site at Waterton Lakes National Park. One of the most photographed hotels in the world, this charming building was built on a bluff overlooking Waterton Lake and the town of Waterton. Designed in a mixture of rustic architectural style and Swiss chalet style, the high gabled roofs and ornamented balconies add charm to this alpine building. The hotel is the largest wooden structure in Western Canada, and it is supported by heavy hand-hewn posts, beams, and trusses made of Douglas fir and cedar cut in the Pacific Northwest.

In this video, we will take you on a tour of the hotel, including the lobby and lounge rooms which were decorated with friezes made by the Blood Indians, an indigenous tribe in the area. The Royal Stewart Dining Hall features large windows that look over the Upper Waterton Lake. We'll even take a ride on the hundred-year-old elevator.

We'll also talk about the hotel's history, including how it was named after the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII) in an attempt to entice him to stay during his 1927 Canadian tour, and how it was used to lure American tourists during the U.S. prohibition era to drink beer in Canada legally.
