This the maiden flight and crash of the slim profile plane I brought up some months back. The plane is loosely based on the rcgroups scratchbuild "The Nasty" but built using foamboard. The fuselage and wing use most of a single sheet each by themselves and then a small piece for the horizontal stab/elevator. This is NOT an FT design however I did use the same horizontal stab/elevator as found on the FT3D. "The Nasty" is a Charles Pirkey design.

This plane was also my part of the Flitetest forum Build-ruary challenge in the month of February where any user who wanted to participate would try and build/fly 4 planes in a month. I think this plane will prove to be an inexpensive teaching tool for doing more advanced manuevers.

Electronics:
Racestar 1000KV brushless motor
30A ESC
3 x 9g servos

I programmed in 3 different rates (low, middle, high) into the plane because I wasn't sure how sensitive it'd be. The rates are set at 30%, 50%, and 70%. For this flight I started out at 50%.

One thing about this plane is I wasn't sure I had it balanced correctly. I had never tried balancing a plane with such a unique designed wing plus I wasn't 100% where my CG point was when I shrunk down the plans to accommodate foamboard size. In the end though, I think the plane ended up being tail heavy and believe that was the cause for the crash. I was pulling back on the elevator stick but was not going anywhere but down.

I should be able to easily trace the fuselage back out on new foamboard and rebuild the plane very easily.
