Happy New Year! Solidarity is our theme for this week in our virtual coworking community, The Academic Writers’ Space (TAWS), the week of 1.2.2023. In the next 7 days, we have 22 two-hour coworking sessions (writing retreats) & 2 planning sessions. We would love to co-work with you & support your resilience and meet your goals.

Academic culture needs more solidarity. Too many of us feel isolated and are struggling alone without the support and resources we need to flourish. Solidarity is unity of feeling or action, especially among individuals with a common interest. Solidarity emphasizes the interdependence between individuals in a society, which helps us sense how we can enhance and support the lives of others. Solidarity with one another creates safety and a shared commitment to act for the collective good. In our community, The Academic Writers’ Space (TAWS), we have this unique context (that exists digitally) where we can experience and practice solidarity. Solidarity doesn’t mean we always agree or see the world in the same way. Rather, we can go beyond binary thinking to see each other and the world as a nuanced spectrum where we consider multiple options, alternatives, and possibilities. We look forward to exploring what solidarity is, why it matters, and how we can nurture solidarity in ourselves, in our community, and beyond.
