A new generation of collectors is loving the color, clarity and infinite possibilities of handblown, hand made and chemically altered art and production glass!
We’re visiting the Green River Glass Club in Des Moines, Washington—an iconic group of collectors who played a pivotal role in my own glass journey when I first started selling at glass shows over 25 years ago. Now, it's my turn to give back! In this video, we explore an incredible range of collectible glass, from iconic studio pieces to stunning hand-painted treasures, all of which are drawing new collectors into the world of glass art.
We’ll dive into a wide variety of collectible glass, including: signed studio glass from the 1980s & 90s, hand-painted Fenton Art Ware, and Murano specialties and Blenko beauties…and much more colorful and captivating glass that's gaining attention today!
Older collectors may be surprised to see how items like swung vases, fairy lamps, and paperweights have become favorites with today’s enthusiasts. But just as past collectors once marveled at the glow of uranium glass (vaseline, canary, and custard glass), new generations are rediscovering the charm of this glowing glass under black light.
We also talk about glass from the 1970s era, including makers like Chalet, Bartlett-Collins, and Moon and Stars, which are now approaching the 50-year mark—once considered modern, but now part of vintage glass history!
At the same time, some glass that was once ubiquitous in the market is now considered a bargain. We explore how green uranium depression glass is becoming a gateway piece for new collectors to discover its other colors, and how once overlooked cut crystal and clear glass are now being rediscovered and used alongside vibrant colored glass.
Join us as we talk about the shifting tides of glass collecting, and the hope that today’s newcomers will come to appreciate the enduring beauty and quality of elegant glass, pattern glass, carnival glass, and Victorian glass. Just like glass itself, the collector market is ever-changing and full of surprises!
