The Amaterasu particle: ultra-high-energy cosmic ray from the void

Описание к видео The Amaterasu particle: ultra-high-energy cosmic ray from the void

The second most powerful cosmic ray ever found has been detected by a telescope array in the West Desert of Utah. Named the Amaterasu particle after the Sun goddess in Japanese mythology, it had an energy of 2.4 million trillion electronvolts, equivalent to that of a golf ball travelling at 95 miles per hour. Only the Oh-My-God particle, detected 30 years earlier, packed a bigger punch.
