Several shots show empty grounds at Aintree in the early morning, being prepared for the events of Grand National Day. A man waters a flowerbed, another rakes over soil in a paddock. Shots of the stables with each door still bolted. Several shots inside the stables of horses being prepared for the race and petted by their owners. A woman puts the Grand National trophy in position in a display case.



Policemen and women stand in a courtyard receiving instructions for the day. They march off to their positions; others are on horseback. Train arrives at Aintree station and people crowd the platform on their way to the racecourse. Several shots of people milling about and looking at racing forms before the start of the race - some groovy dressers amongst them. Horses are paraded about. Jockeys mount their horses. Shot of Union Jack flag at half mast to mark death of Eisenhower. C/Us of bookies shouting and taking bets. One stands beside a sign reading 'Don't Be Sorry Bet With Morry'.



Horses make their way to the starting point. The horses start off in the race. Several shots of the race - mostly tracking shots of the leaders. Highland Wedding is in the lead and puts on a surge of power to pass the winning post first, ridden by Eddie Harty. The winner makes his way to the winning enclosure. People and photographers gather round to congratulate horse and jockey.
