High jump in 2016 saw Mutaz Essa Barshim from Qatar and Chaunté Lowe from the USA leading the world-list with respectively 2.40 m and 2.01 m.

Canada's Derek Drouin claimed the Olympic title with a 2.38 meters' jump while Spain's Ruth Beitia took the women's title with a 1.97 clearance.
