This is different from store bought halva and is more like revani cake (video of my mom making that here:    • Angelo's Mom Cooks Revani (Greek Cake)  ). It only takes a few minutes to prepare once you have all the ingredients ready, 45 minutes to bake, and then 10 minutes to make the syrup.

The ingredients:
-1 cup sugar
-Half cup flour
-1 cup grounded almonds
-2 teaspoons baking powder
-Pinch of salt
-3 eggs
-2 sticks butter
-3/4 cup milk
-2 cups semolina flour

Ingredients for the syrup:
-3 cups sugar
-3 cups water
-Lemon peel
-Cinnamon sticks
-3 or 4 cloves

Leave two sticks of butter out for a few hours or overnight. Put the 1 cup of almonds in a blender and thoroughly blend them. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Mix all the dry ingredients together for the halva except for the sugar in a large bowl. Stir them thoroughly. Take one of the sticks of butter and coat a baking pan with it.

In another bowl, put the two sticks of butter in, add the sugar (my mom messed that part up and put the sugar in with the dry ingredients, which still worked out fine), the three eggs, and use an electric egg beater to whip everything together.

Pour the dry mixture in with the eggs, butter, and sugar a little at a time, stir it with a spoon, and keep adding the dry mix and milk gradually and stirring.

Pour the entire mix in the baking pan, shake it to make it level, and bake for 45 minutes. While it's cooking you can prepare (but do not cook yet) the syrup. Put in a pot 3 cups sugar, 3 cups water, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and lemon peel.

Stick a knife in and pull it out to see if it's done. If nothing sticks to it, it's done. Then turn the heat up on the syrup mixture and let it boil for about 10 minutes.

While the halva is still warm (but not hot or cold) strain the syrup for the lemon peel, cinnamon sticks, and cloves, and pour it onto the halva in the baking pan. Let it soak overnight and serve. It's really good. Though I think my mom could have cut down quite a bit on the sugar.

My mom mentions her excitement for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 again and wonders if one of my favorite filmmakers, Alex Proyas, is going to see it. And I bring up how Adam Carolla hates halva. Which I kind of get. It can be strange and an acquired taste.
