In the men’s competition, it’s David Diederich, a general contractor from Stony Point, New Jersey vs. Joseph Edwards, a student from Baytown, Texas. In the women’s round, it’s Bernie Wooster, a graphic designer from San Francisco, California against Peggy Odita, a sales manager from Redwood City, California.

Powerball: Contenders try to score points by depositing balls into baskets and avoid being tackled by three Gladiators.

Assault: The contender must attempt to hit a target while a Gladiator shoots at them using a tennis ball cannon.

Sky Track: The contenders and a Gladiator race around an inverted track, using velcro attached to their hands and feet

Whiplash: The contender and Gladiator each hold one end of a double triangle apparatus, known as the “dog bone”. They must each attempt to have the other either let go of the “dog bone”, or exit the ring.

Pyramid: Contenders have 45 seconds to reach the top of a pyramid, with two Gladiators blocking their path.

Hang Tough: The Gladiator and contender swing across hanging gymnastics rings, with the contender trying to make it to the opposite platform without the Gladiator forcing them off.


Breakthrough & Conquer: The contender must face two Gladiators in this two-part event. First, they need to score a touchdown against the first Gladiator. Then the contender must wrestle the second Gladiator, forcing them to step outside of a ring.

The Eliminator: The Eliminator is an obstacle course spanning the arena, the winner of which advances to the next round of the competition.

Beginning in 1989 for 8 seasons, this competition swept America. Two men and two women compete against each other and a roster of ""American Gladiators"". Events included, The Assault, Joust, The Wall, Breakthrough and Conquer, Hang Tough, Powerball, and many others, all culminating in the final event, ""The Eliminator"", a difficult obstacle course race. Every season there is a tournament to determine its ""Grand Champion"". For two seasons, there was an ""International"" competition taped in England where the champions from 4-6 countries competed similarly.
