Update: 10/10/25:
I've done some further testing and I've determined that there is no 256 character limit or 260 character limit when it comes to OneDrive specifically. The limit that's coded into the OneDrive agent, protects it from folders and files that are greater than 400 characters due to the URL limits on the website. There is also what it seems to be a five character buffer on this so technically I was only able to create folders and files in the known folders that were 395 characters.

I work for a big five accounting firm and we're migrating to OneDrive as managed back up. Which is a feature within OneDrive, which basically redirect your profile folders under OneDrive. One of the main challenges with this is it adds roughly 15 characters to all of the known folders which are considered desktop, documents, pictures, etc. And the obvious issue here is as if a user has a file or folder that is close to the limit. The OneDrive process will break it by adding 15 characters, making it too long. And this video is to document what we thought would've been an error, message or issue when trying to move these folders, however, when we test the move, it doesn't fail, nor does it give us any error messages.
