Manhattan native Tim Brown became a Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) firefighter in 1984 and served in the Department for 20 years. In September 2001, Brown was a firefighter detailed to NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s Office of Emergency Management.

Brown was eating breakfast in 7 World Trade Center when the first plane hit the North Tower on September 11th. Brown raced to the lobby of the North Tower to help evacuate people from the building.

After the second plane struck, Brown rushed to the South Tower lobby and saw hundreds of injured people trying to make their way out of the building. He told his fire chief that he was going to find paramedics and bring them back to the scene. Brown did just that, and he and the paramedics were only feet away from the South Tower when it started to collapse.
