Couples Therapy: Using the Talking Stick for Better Communication

Описание к видео Couples Therapy: Using the Talking Stick for Better Communication

In this presentation, Jill Squyres Groubert, Ph.D., explores the story of Lisa and Mark, a couple in their early 50s who embarked on a profound journey to mend their relationship after the revelation of Mark’s ongoing affair.

Dr. Squyres Groubert explains the “talking stick” technique for helping clients to improve active listening and engage in healthy communication.

A talking stick was implemented as a tool to improve communication in couples therapy, helping Mark and Lisa to address interruptions and impatience during conversations.
They decided on a rainbow-colored whisk for their talking stick, due to its comfort, sturdiness, and association with their shared pleasure in cooking.
The couple focused on developing their active listening skills and committed to transferring such skills, which they already practiced in their jobs, to their personal lives.
