Nasser Al-Reyess discusses the unexpected presence of Arab and Muslim motifs in the film. The main character, Timothée Chalamet, is named Al-Mahdi in Arabic, referencing the Islamic figure believed to save the world. The Fremen, the movie's people, are depicted praying with their faces on the ground, resembling Islamic prayer.
