Moses Yoofee might as well be the most hyped young keyboarder in the contemporary jazz/fusion sphere selling out Blue Note New York and Jazz Cafe London with his trio. Meanwhile, Afghan-German producer and artist Farhot is an OG, label founder of Kabul Fire, who has collabs with major German rappers like Haftbefehl as well as legends like Talib Kweli, Kano and Ms. Dynamite under his belt. These two giants present an infectious fusion jazz groove, "Cha Cha", created during their Shutters Studio Residency, working with one of Germany’s biggest collections of synthesizers, located in Hamburg’s old WW2 bunker.

The Shutters Studio Residency invites emerging artists to explore one of Germany’s largest synthesizer collections, housed in a former WWII bunker in Hamburg. BRKN embodies passion, love, pain, and everything in between in his music. This is also true of the song “Rewind,” which he created with a selection of over 50 synthesizers in the Shutters Studio Residency.

The studio was founded in 2010 by local engineers Sunny Vollherbst and Frank Husemann, who were instrumental in the evolution of the Hamburger Schule and the early 2000s German songwriting movement with bands such as Tocotronic, Blumfeld and Kettcar. Together, they form the electronic duo Q2 and accompany each residency with expertise and passion to help realize the artist’s vision.

The Shutters Studio Residency has hosted musicians rooted in diverse sounds, backgrounds, and aesthetics. This season’s international lineup included Zylva; MELTING GREYS (DJ MELL G & Newinfluenzer); BRKN, Albertine Sarges, Ostia & Izzy Ment, Farhot, Moses Yoofee, Donkey Kid, Ceren, Douniah and D'Monk, Andreas Raser and Kev Koko.

The atmosphere that analogue music production and darkwave-inspired vintage machines lend to the sound is unmatched. It can be clearly heard across all nine releases. Every song was written, produced, and recorded entirely at the Synthesizer Studio Hamburg.
