Navy veteran Jim Nelson rose to the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class serving on a destroyer off the coast of Vietnam. Involved in anti-submarine work, his ship followed many Russian subs. Coming back to the US, he was surprised by the hostile responses he received from anti-war protestors in Denver.

This oral history was recorded in Minot, ND on August 24, 2017. The interview was conducted by Bob Dambach of Prairie Public Broadcasting as part of the Prairie Memories The Vietnam Years project.
