Why is modern Christianity so obsessed with controlling sex? It's not in the Bible the way most people think — and that gap tells us something important.

In this video I trace how Christianity went from a messianic movement with relatively little interest in sexuality to a religion that built entire institutions around sexual shame. I look at Paul's actual argument in 1 Corinthians (it's about group cohesion, not personal purity), how Stoic ethics and Platonic body-soul dualism reshaped early Christian thought, Augustine's invention of original sin in the 5th century, and Foucault's argument that the 17th century didn't repress sex — it created a discourse that made sex into a site of control.

The argument: sexuality became Christianity's "perfect sin" because it's universal, biologically driven, cyclical, and can never be permanently resolved. That makes it uniquely useful for a religion built around ongoing cycles of sin, shame, forgiveness, and redemption.
