Small Emperor Moth Lifecycle! From egg to moth
I raised the caterpillars last year and I found them pretty easy to rear. As long as you clean the caterpillars out regularly and make sure they have a really good food source they didn’t have any issues.
The caterpillars will eat a variety of foods such as hawthorn and bramble and many more
Caterpillars moult around 5 times and finally spinning a beautiful cocoon between the leaves.
The cocoons do require to be over wintered, I’m not experienced with this but I have it a try.
I put the cocoons in a sealed tub in the fridge and took them out this spring. All the cocoons hatched successfully and I was even lucky enough to see some hatching 🎉
