Описание к видео Orkney 2025 - Women’s Javelin Medal Ceremony

I only got one brief shot of the javelin competition itself, with a throw by Emma Saar of Saaremaa. I am hoping that the live stream may have captured more of the competition.

There was joy for the Western Isles as their magnificent anthem rang out, with Amie Ringstead winning the gold medal in her second Island Games with a best throw of 40.46 metres. She is the first Western Isles athlete, male or female, to win a gold medal in a throwing event, and the fourth to win gold in any discipline - following middle distance runners Eilidh Mackenzie and Donnie Macleod and triple jumper Heather McKinnon. Amie was sixth on her debut in Guernsey in 2023.

The silver medallist, repeating her placing in Guernsey two years ago, was Sunniva Bogadóttir of the Faroe Islands with a best throw of 38.92 metres. She remains the only Faroese medal winner in the women’s javelin at the Island Games.

The very popular bronze medallist, making an Island Games comeback and receiving great support from the crowd, was Thora Cant of Orkney. She previously won silver medals in 2013 and 2015, and it was wonderful to see her doing so well on her comeback for her home Games.

The medals were presented by a true legend of Orkney athletics, Linda Low. Linda won 10 medals during her Island Games career which lasted from 1987 to 2003. Her two gold medals came in the javelin and shot, both in 1989. She remains by some distance Orkney’s most successful athlete at the Games.
