The production of Deadpool 3 faces a challenge as Ryan Reynolds, reprising his role as Wade Wilson, is legally restricted from improvising his lines for the upcoming movie.
Reynolds has been a key player in the previous two Deadpool films, contributing to the series alongside a cast of talented individuals.
As the finale to Deadpool's trilogy, Deadpool 3 boasts a lineup of returning actors, the inclusion of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, and an array of new characters making their first appearance in Deadpool's maiden Marvel Cinematic Universe journey.
Although Reynolds might have enjoyed concocting impromptu wisecracks about Deadpool's MCU integration on set, he is prohibited from doing so by law.
Collider reports that the commencement of filming for Deadpool 3 coincides with the Writers Guild of America strike, presenting a substantial issue for the movie.
Deadpool 3's original planned filming date was slated for May 1st.
However, this was not realized, possibly due to Marvel Studios' decision to involve Zeb Wells in revising Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick's script or perhaps the reported filming start date was simply inaccurate, thus considerably affecting the start of Deadpool 3's production.
In case you were unaware, the Writers Guild of America is actively striking to advocate for improved working conditions for writers in the film industry.
Amid the strike, only a limited amount of scriptwork can be done.
As per the 2020 WGA agreement, producers and directors are permitted to make "casual minor adjustments in dialogue or narration made prior to or during the period of principal photography."
Unfortunately, this does not extend to franchise lead Ryan Reynolds.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, due to the 2023 WGA strike's regulations, Reynolds, as a writer of Deadpool 3, is forbidden from making any alterations to the script during the strike.
Known for his spontaneous humor on set, the absence of Reynolds' improvisational skills, a crucial element from the preceding films in the franchise, will be noticeable.
But this isn't Ryan Reynolds' first experience working under these circumstances.
Reynolds, alongside Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, encountered a writers' strike during the filming of 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
And I think we all remember how that ended.
Reynolds admitted to crafting Deadpool's dialogue himself, stating, "every line I have in the movie I just wrote myself."
Regrettably, under the present conditions, he won't be able to do so as a writer of Deadpool 3.
As his ad-libbing is a fundamental aspect of the Deadpool series, the impact of this situation on Deadpool 3 remains to be seen.
Audiences were taken aback in September last year when Ryan Reynolds announced that Hugh Jackman would reprise his role as Wolverine in the upcoming MCU sequel, Deadpool 3.
Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld recently revealed on social media that the third installment will have a stronger focus on Wolverine, much more than anticipated.
Liefeld's emphatic wording implies that Deadpool 3 will highlight Jackman's Wolverine significantly, which is quite logical given the character's popularity and Jackman's portrayal of him.
Although the specifics of how Deadpool 3 will emphasize Wolverine remain undisclosed, Liefeld has previously suggested that the storyline might revolve around a road trip featuring Wolverine and Deadpool.
Last year, the comic book writer and artist likened the potential narrative to iconic pairings in movies like Bing Crosby and Bob Hope, or Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and Lethal Weapon.
Ryan Reynolds Couldn't Be More Thrilled About Hugh Jackman's return despite retiring his Wolverine persona in the highly praised Logan in 2017, and Reynolds has consistently pushed for a union between Deadpool and Wolverine.
Reynolds expressed his anticipation last month, stating that he had been pestering Jackman for years and that the timing now feels perfect.
He revealed that the pitched character divergence was sufficiently novel to provide Jackman with a completely fresh character to portray, one that he was eager to take on.
Deadpool 3, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Morena Baccarin, is currently in production and is set to be released on November 8, 2024, marking the commencement of Phase Six of the MCU.
