Nick Robinson and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo join Kyle Meredith to talk about the new Millie Bobby Brown fronted Netflix film, Damsel, which tells the story of a dutiful damsel (Brown) who agrees to marry a handsome prince (Robinson), only to find the royal family (an evil queen played by Robin Wright!) has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive. Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo talks about flipping the traditional fairytale storytelling upside down and how the film portrays not just a story of survival, but also women helping women. Fresnadillo goes on to talk about the near half hour one-on-one shots we get with Millie, how they based the dragon on felines instead of reptiles, and getting Lykki Li to cover Johnny Cash for the credits. From there, Nick Robinson gives us the motivation of playing a bad prince and his enjoyment of playing darker characters, as well as what it’s like to play opposite legendary actors like Robin Wright and Angela Bassett, and what it was like to be on the set of History of the World Pt II.
