Описание к видео Why British Army called in Birmingham for operation rubbish cleanup what happened in Birmingham

The British Army was called in to assist with Birmingham’s waste crisis due to an ongoing bin workers’ strike that began on March 11, 2025. The strike led to the accumulation of over 21,000 tonnes of uncollected rubbish on the city’s streets, raising significant public health concerns and attracting vermin.

To address this emergency, the government deployed military logistical planners—not soldiers collecting rubbish—to support Birmingham City Council’s efforts in coordinating waste removal operations. This move aimed to enhance the efficiency of the clean-up process without involving direct military intervention on the ground.

The crisis has been exacerbated by financial challenges within the Labour-led Birmingham City Council, which had previously been declared effectively bankrupt in 2023. The council’s proposed changes to waste management roles, including potential pay cuts of up to £8,000 for some workers, have been a central point of contention leading to the strike.

Despite the military’s logistical support, tensions remain high between the council and the Unite union representing the refuse workers. The union has rejected recent pay offers, and the dispute continues to impact the city’s sanitation and public health.
