Surrendered by their owners under heartbreaking circumstances, Bulldogs Turin and Brownie came into our care struggling to breathe. What we thought were symptoms of heat stroke turned out to be signs of much more complicated soft palate issues, and without a surgical fix, these dogs will not survive.

English Bulldogs Turin and Brownie were recently surrendered into our care after devastating circumstances left their family unable to care for them any longer. Although we offered to provide the family with temporary support, their current living arrangements made it impossible for them to keep their furry friends. Upon their intake, we noticed that both Turin and Brownie were struggling to breathe, even more so than the average bulldog.

While transporting these pups to their foster home, the transporter heard Turin begin to pant heavily and thought he might be overheating. The Bulldogs were quickly rerouted to our vet’s office, but after a quick exam, we learned that they actually both need soft palate surgery. My Bulldogs are born with soft palates too large for their unusually small snouts, which can impair their breathing as we can see with Turin and Brownie.

Turin was suffering from some other complications that made his symptoms more pronounced, but we were surprised to learn that Brownie’s soft palate is in dire need of adjustment. It is now a matter of life and death, and we cannot ignore this critical issue. Our vet informed us that these dogs will undoubtedly lose their lives, and soon, without this essential operation. While in foster care, Turin has already had a few brushes with death, so this cannot wait a moment longer.

Brownie and Turin are being kept under the watchful eye of their experienced foster mom, and they will be heading into surgery shortly. While we would spend whatever it takes to save their lives, Turin and Brownie’s surgeries are extremely costly, estimated to be around $4,000 each. We are in dire need of help to get these dogs the care they need. Their owners have entrusted us with their care, and we cannot let them down, as we have promised to help their dogs live long and happy lives.
