Whenever someone starts talking about the "literal" interpretation of scripture, the hair on the back of my neck stands up. Few good things happen after that sort of diatribe. In this case, Thomas Lancaster's book, published by FFOZ, suffers from a fundamental flaw in its reasoning: it takes the terms of the Ancient Near Eastern treaty that God made with Israel literally. That is, FFOZ wants Torah to be "perfect, eternal, unchanging" even thought that wasn't how its original author, or its original audience, would have thought about the treaty they made with the LORD.
In the end, when anyone tries to broaden the scope of God's Word, the result isn't what God is trying to say, but what we want to say, a dangerous path.
