F1 1993 - Michael Andretti's Wreckfest (McLaren-Ford)

Michael Andretti endured a difficult 1993 F1 season. He was consistently slower than Ayrton Senna during qualifying, made too many mistakes out on track and generally failed to take the best from his McLaren MP4/8 on race day. The American wasn't prepared to live in Europe and his constant flying between continents didn't help with his acclimatization to F1 either. Thus, after the 13th race of the season and arguably his best appearance with a podium finish at the Italian GP, he was unceremoniously dumped by McLaren. To make things even worse, his replacement, Mika Hakkinen, managed to outqualify Senna on his first appearance by a mere 48 milliseconds and equal Andretti's best place finish (3rd) a race after.
