Cymru was once a common setting for American and British movies. THE PROUD VALLEY was released in 1940 from Ealing Studios and written specifically for its star, the American communist Paul Robeson. Here I take a look at the star, his cultural and political leanings and how they contributed to a film which poses questions for modern Welsh internationalists.
