Can you Dye Speckled Yarn with Solar Dyeing with Only Natural Materials?

Hello friends! Aren't you perpetually tempted by all the pretty handdyed yarns you see over on the fiber artist of your choice's instagram? I certainly am. And this prompted me to ask the question: can you achieve the variegated and speckled look of these artfully handdyed wool yarns with some natural dyeing? And even more primitive: solar dyeing?

And you know, when I wonder about a thing, it turns into a full fletched experiment. So come with me to forage some dyeplants in my garden and let the sun do her magic on this thrifted jar and dyestuffs!
