The Yamuna River in Delhi has been witnessing a rapid rise in water levels, creating a serious flood threat. In order to protect the lives and property of people, the Delhi government has taken swift action. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta ensured that the families living in jhuggi-jhopdis (slums) along the Yamuna banks were safely relocated to temporary shelters. This proactive step has saved people from potential disaster.

When the O News Hindi team visited one of these relief camps to interact with the people, the response was mixed. The majority of the residents praised the government’s arrangements, saying that timely action helped them feel safe and secure during this natural crisis.

However, some reactions raised serious questions. Particularly, a section of the Muslim community expressed dissatisfaction. Instead of appreciating the relief efforts, they started demanding free items like milk and biscuits and even praised former CM Arvind Kejriwal, criticizing the current government.

This attitude sparked a big question – why is there always an expectation of getting everything for free? At a time when the government is focusing on saving lives and providing safety, should political favoritism and free demands take the center stage?

The truth is, every government has the duty to ensure the safety of its people, and in this case, CM Rekha Gupta has fulfilled that duty responsibly. Still, such behavior from a section of people clearly reflects how the mindset of free culture has weakened self-reliance in society.

On one hand, many citizens appreciated the government’s step, while on the other hand, some people chose to look at the situation only through a political lens. The bigger debate here is – should citizens always expect free facilities from the government, or should they act responsibly during times of crisis?
