How To Find A PhD Program That YOU Will Love

Finding a PhD that you will love is a difficult task and most people will get lost in the process.

There is two schools of thought during a PhD. One is that you have to come up with your own idea, and if you're going to do this you should likely start thinking about your interest right away.

The other school of thought is that you don't have enough information to truly understand what you're interested in. In this view, it is important to find a program and PhD advisors that are supportive and push you to discover who you are.

Over the years I have changed my mind considerably about what is the most effective way to find a PhD program. I used to be focused on the former, but I think the ladder is the most effective, as you really do not know that much until you're about five years into your graduate school.

Advisor. What you should be looking for is and extremely caring but rigorous supervisor.

Location. You should also be looking for the Location of the Ph.D program. the location should fit what you're interested for a lifestyle.

Supportive students. You should also look for a program that has a reasonable amount of PhD students around that can help you.

Open Door Rule. You should look for PHD programs that have an open door rule with all of the potential advisors.

Finding A Place Where You Can Be You. The goal of a PhD is not to just serve others, but to discover who you are as a person.
