Sixto entered foster care when he was 11 months old and finally aged out of the system at 23. Sixto was actually only 58 miles away from family members who were willing to take him in, but the system failed to consider this option.

This experience shaped everything for Sixto and ultimately led to him founding Think of Us. As a result, the power of lived experience has become the foundation of the organization.

Think of Us has an Audacious idea: to rebuild the US foster care system, by putting the people with lived experience at the center of designing it.

Five years in, we are excited to announce the largest funding pool of $1 billion catalyzed for innovations in climate, breakthrough science, child welfare and women’s health. The ten grantees will present their big ideas onstage at TED2023, and join an existing portfolio of 39 Audacious projects, for which more than four billion philanthropic dollars has been catalyzed to support their visions.
