Omega Evil Ryu is mostly the same character as previous versions. A lot of his frame data is unchanged, meaning most combos he's had before, will work with his Omega version. The main difference with Omega Evil Ryu is how some of his tools work, and ways of using meter, along with a couple new moves. Completely distinct from other Omega characters, OERyu has 4 normals or target combos that are EX cancelable only.

Main Changes:


s.MK - forces stand.

f.MK - Use in specific juggles continues a juggled state whereas before, it'd cause a reset. On certain characters in the corner, OERyu can combo EX tatsu, f.MK xx EX tatsu, or M tatsu.

Tatsus - All tatsus now knockdown. Medium tatsu has some improved juggle potential.

Axe kicks - All axe kicks are virtually the same. Heavy axe kick retains its hard knockdown ability, making it probably the only special move that causes a hard knockdown in Omega. EX Axe kick is now a 2 bar move. It can be FADC'd and has limited combo potential.

Shoryukens - All DPs are now 4f start up (up from 3f), so certain link combo routes into DP don't work anymore. Most of the DPs seem the same, except EX DP has quite a bit more range.

s.MP~HP Target combos - The far version can be EX special canceled on the first hit of the HP. The close version causes a juggle and can be normal special canceled.

Other EX cancelable only normals - close HK, far HK, far HP.

close HK has improved juggle potential after L tatsu, or in the corner, L DP. It can be linked from jabs or crouch MP.

New Moves:


f.HP "Zounuki" - OERyu does a lunging attack that breaks armor. There are two versions of it: Charged and uncharged. Full charge does 200 damage and soft knocks down. On block it does 51 chip damage. f.HP is a unique normal in that it can be super canceled, but it can't be focus canceled. Only uncharged f.HP can combo and typically only from a level 3 focus attack.

Command Grab - Done with DP+K, visually it looks like a forward teleport. There are only 2 versions, normal and EX. EX can be combo'd from with certain specials in a juggle in the corner, or midscreen after FADC. This move is unlisted in the Omega mode move list pdf, so I don't know what to call it.

"Rakuyo Hadoken" - A 3rd fireball option for OERyu. Done with reverse DP motion + punch. It's basically a trap fireball. It doesn't give him great combo options afterward.

Creator Notes

This video took a lot of effort to make. Even in terms of emotions. It might sound weird to admit, but spending so much time working on character videos, I've started to feel a connection to them. Needless to say, I was getting agitated with this video. Main reason was because I had a lot of unused footage that I couldn't really fit in, in a timely manner. Also, sometimes you really want things to turn out a certain way, but I was struggling with the length of some clips I had, either being too long, or too short, or just difficult to fit in the field. Evil Ryu has plenty of long combos, and I didn't want to display too much of that.

Furthermore, in the process of making this video, I was watching an old movie called "Manhunter". It's the first film adaptation for the book "Red Dragon". In the time of making this video, and watching that movie, I started to feel a strong parallel with that movie and Ryu. Without spoiling anything, I will say a theme for that movie is confronting the killer inside. I recommend watching that movie if you can. It's beautifully flawed.
