About the piece:
I began work on this piece with many late-night solo improvisation sessions on my hardanger fiddle, during which I used an unrosined bow as a means of muting my sound without muting the resonance and partials of my instrument. By using the unrosined bow, I was thrown into an entirely new listening experience, one that liberated my focus from the fundamental on what is historically an incessantly melody driven instrument. The extreme timbral range of the percussion ensemble has enabled me to explore these textures and worlds more thoroughly, and to construct a hyper- instrument out of the ensemble, my violin, and electronics.

My goal is for the listener to experience this piece the same way I do—for the listener to feel the same wash of joy that that comes from hearing these sonorities pour out of my instrument, just a few inches from my ear, with the quietest of whispers.
