A new crisis now surrounds the self imposed one month ban by gov’t on the export of horticultural products into the European Union over challenges associated with standards. Its emerging that during the course of the 4 week suspension of exports in particular of chillies, there has been fresh interceptions of products below standard from 12 different firms. The puzzling incident, has now seen the Ministry of Trade and Industry placing blame on its counterpart ministry of Agriculture for issuing export Certificates to non compliance exporters. Uganda secures at least $600m from the export of horticultural products to the European Union.
