「五帝五老上帝寶誥」
至心皈命禮
一元分氣，五曜舒暉。按行乎南北西東，燮裡乎雨暘寒燠。奠中宮者曰聖，佐後土者曰神。各分周天之候，不爽次舍之經。九街大使，三界行人。大悲大願，大聖大慈。太虛布化，周通無極。五老天尊。
「五帝五老上帝寶誥」是道教在天臘之辰（正月初一）專門持誦的寶誥，用於祈請五帝解五方厄，校定人間眾生的神氣、壽命長短，並賜福添年。天臘不僅是新年伊始，更是道教齋醮、反省、祈福、謝罪、朝真行道的良辰吉日。五老上帝為五行之主、天地之根、陰陽之始祖，統御三界十方，掌人生死壽夭、祿位福報。五方五老上帝即東方青帝、南方赤帝、中央黃帝、西方白帝、北方黑帝。天地最初由一元之氣分化出五行，進而化為金木水火土五星，光輝照耀四方。五帝各鎮一方，巡行東、南、西、北，調和風雨晴陰、寒暑冷暖，使四時有序、萬物生長。他們精準掌管一年四季、二十八宿與天象變化，絲毫不差，既能通行天、地、水三界，又能傳達天意、救度眾生。五帝不僅威德廣大，更具大慈大悲、救苦救難的宏願，其神力源自無形無相的太虛之道，遍及無窮時空。聆聽或誦持此誥可感通神明、契合天道，新歲之初納福、消災、增壽、淨業。
"The Five Emperors Lords' Baogao" is a sacred liturgical text in Taoism specifically recited on Tianla Day—the first day of the lunar new year. It is chanted to invoke the Five Emperors to dispel calamities from the five directions, assess the vital energies and lifespans of all beings, and bestow blessings for longevity and prosperity. Tianla marks not only the beginning of the new year but also a highly auspicious occasion in Taoism for rituals, self-reflection, prayer, repentance, and spiritual cultivation. The Five Elder Lords are the sovereigns of the Five Phases (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water), the root of Heaven and Earth, and the primordial ancestors of Yin and Yang. They govern the Ten Directions and Three Realms, overseeing human life and death, longevity, fortune, and official rank. These Five Elders correspond to the Five Directional Emperors: the Azure Emperor of the East, the Vermilion Emperor of the South, the Yellow Emperor of the Center, the White Emperor of the West, and the Black Emperor of the North. In the beginning, the undivided primal Qi (Yuan Qi) differentiated into the Five Phases, which then manifested as the Five Planets—Jupiter (Wood), Mars (Fire), Saturn (Earth), Venus (Metal), and Mercury (Water)—radiating their luminous influence across the four quarters. Each of the Five Emperors presides over one direction, patrolling east, south, west, and north, harmonizing wind and rain, sun and cloud, cold and warmth, thereby ensuring the orderly progression of the four seasons and the flourishing of all life. They precisely regulate the annual cycle, the twenty-eight lunar mansions, and celestial phenomena without the slightest error. Capable of freely traversing the Three Realms—Heaven, Earth, and the Waters—they convey the will of Heaven and deliver sentient beings from suffering. Endowed with immense spiritual power and boundless compassion, they embody great vows to relieve distress and rescue all beings. Their divine might originates from the formless, boundless Tai Xu (Great Void)—the ultimate source of the Tao—and pervades infinite space and time. To listen to or recite this Baogao enables one to resonate with the divine, align with the cosmic order, and at the dawn of the new year, attract blessings, dissolve misfortunes, extend life, and purify karmic obstacles.
